I was in Maracaibo as part of
the University Education Project--teaching at Universidad del Zulia and doing
community development work at the National Prison and at the Zulia State
Association for the Blind. I also edited Quaicaipuro (?) the Peace Corps
Volunteer Newsletter in Venezuela. I served from 1962-64. Our group trained at
Univ of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and then at Camp Crozier in Puerto Rico.
We were a group of about 25 based at various universities around the country.
I serve on the Board of NPCA -- probably the longest sitting member of the
Board--first joined in 1984 when I was VP of Boston RPCVs. I represent the
latin american RPCV groups in particular serving as a liason to those groups. I
am also the Chair of the Awards Committee--we give Shriver Awards to outstanding
individual RPCVs, Ruppe Awards to outstanding affiliated RPCV groups, and Web
Site Awards and Newsletter Awards.
